LITTLE RED BOOK
Redefining connections and discoveries for Little Red Book community
Duration
4 weeks (June 2020 to July 2020)
Problem
The pandemic forced many locations into lockdown and left adults experiencing unprecedented levels of social isolation. As the epidemic begins to draw to a close, people are eager to resume face-to-face socializing and rebuild their social lives. However, many are struggling to find social activities and meet new friends.

Goal
To redesign the Little Red Book app with a focus on enabling users to connect with like-minded individuals and build meaningful friendships. The app will offer features that allow users to hold and share social events, discover places to visit, and find new friends who share their interests. Additionally, the redesign will maintain the existing platform for users to review products and share shopping experiences.
Outcome
We understand the importance of face-to-face socializing and the desire to meet new friends with similar interests. That's why we've introduced a new feature, "Find Local Events", to our app's menu bar. The onboarding process has been designed to make it easy for users to select their preferred location, events, and hobbies. Our advanced algorithm then suggests events tailored to their interests, making it easier to find like-minded individuals and socialize in real life.
With "Find Local Events", users can explore and share local happenings, create and host their own events, and connect with others who share their interests. Whether it's attending a food festival, a hiking trip, or a book club meeting, our feature enables users to seamlessly navigate to event locations and make new connections.

Interviews
To gain insights into the needs of our target users, we conducted user interviews with three individuals from diverse backgrounds, including a frequent traveler, a college student, and a working professional seeking new events and friendships. The interviews revealed a common theme: users were dissatisfied with the current options available and the lack of a centralized platform to discover events that align with their interests in their local area. They expressed their frustration with the tedious process of searching for events across multiple platforms and the limited results they obtained. This was particularly true for users who were new to a city or town and did not have an established network to rely on.
Traveler
"When I travel to a new city, I always try to find local events to get a sense of the local culture and community. However, it can be hard to know where to look or what events are worth attending. "
Working Professional
"I think attending local events is a great way to network and meet new people, but it's hard to find events that align with my professional goals."
Student
"I usually hear about local events through social media or posters around campus, but I wish there was a centralized place to find everything."
Brainstorming
During our brainstorming session, our team gathered together to generate a wide range of ideas. Our goal was to come up with innovative solutions to the challenge at hand, using a collaborative and open-minded approach. Through this process, we explored some possible avenues and push beyond conventional thinking to deliver the best possible outcomes.
User Flow
To establish a clear and intuitive path for users to discover local events, our team developed a user flow. This process involved identifying the key steps that a user would take when using the "Find Local Events" feature.
First, the user would access the feature by selecting it from the main navigation menu. From there, they would be taken to a search page where they can browse events by category, location, date, and other filters. The user can then select an event to view more details such as the event description, time, location, and reviews from other users.
The user flow was designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind, ensuring that users can quickly and easily find local events that match their interests. This flow will be continuously refined and improved based on user feedback to provide the best possible experience for our users.
Wireframe
After defining the user flow for the "find local events" feature, we proceeded to create a wireframe. The wireframe serves as a low-fidelity visual representation of the feature, outlining its layout and functionality. We used the information gathered during the user research and incorporated it into the wireframe to ensure that the feature meets the needs and preferences of our target users.
